How old is your ‘expert’? My experience is that it is not so much a generation gap. We used social media like tools already in the 90s (BBSs, IM, IC, CompuServe Forums and Special Interest Groups) and we have here in Europe a very active and large number of senior citizens using social media now. So I do not agree with this point. What I DO see however that especially in organisations I see that the (higher) management and boards are way behind in adopting and understanding social media. As if they feel that they do not have to learn new skills anymore. But as I said there are many people of the same age (40 - 60) working in other departments who DO understand social media but are frustrated by their bosses. It is too easy to say it is a generation thing.
